Top High Schools in Virginia, According to Newsweek

Newsweek just released their 2008 Top 1,300 Public High School Rankings:

“The NEWSWEEK list of top U.S. high schools was compiled this year, as in years past, according to a single metric, the proportion of students taking college-level exams: Cambridge, International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement. We count the total number of these tests taken at a school by all students each May, and divide by the number of graduating seniors. Any school with a ratio of 1.000 or higher is placed on the NEWSWEEK list.”

Highlights from the list for Northern Virginia include:

#16: H-B Woodlawn, Arlington
#55: Langley, McLean
#59: George Mason, Falls Church
#65: Washington-Lee, Arlington
#74: W.T. Woodson, Fairfax
#75: Yorktown, Arlington
#99: McLean, McLean
#105: Oakton, Vienna
#144: Herndon, Herndon
#151: James Madison, Vienna
#218: Robinson Secondary, Fairfax

Congratulations to all of the local schools for their placements. For the complete list of schools, visit the Newsweek Rankings.

About Me: Keller Williams McLean Agent, Scott Montgomery

With just under a decade of real estate experience, I still get a thrill over what’s happening in this area’s sometimes unpredictable real estate market.

Knowing the ins and outs of this vast region isn’t easy - it takes time and energy and a lot of patience to know the real estate markets of Reston, Falls Church, Alexandria, Fairfax County, Arlington County, Mclean, Ashburn, Manassas and other jurisdictions in the Northern Virginia area. To be able to effectively search out and then write winning contracts for condos and homes on the market is just part of the process, but being able to identify unique and well-valued homes or investment properties is my true asset for those folks looking for just the right home or investment to buy.

I find helping people to find just the right real estate is a pleasure especially when you have a passion like I have for housing, real estate investing and general real estate transactions.

It is my philosophy that the real estate process should be easy for you. Through my experiences I have learned to provide excellent counseling, knowledge and technical expertise throughout the task of buying or selling a home. I have proven time after time that educating my clients and constantly asserting my attention to detail throughout the transaction(s) takes out much of the stress usually associated with buying or selling real estate. I think having an expert real estate agent helps to guarantee the successful conclusion of your purchase or sale.

I want to be that real estate agent for you.

Georgetown Waterfront - Great Views, Great Food at Sequoia Restaurant

With the gorgeous weather we had this past Memorial Day weekend, the Georgetown Waterfront on K St. N.W. was the perfect place to take out of town guests for a delicious dinner with beautiful views. Although we weren’t the only ones with this idea, the wait for a table was worth it. The fountain (pictured above) is just outside of the restaurant, along with trees lined with holiday lights, and views of the Potomac. The extensive menu offered something for everyone - pasta, seafood, meat, salad, pizza, and more! The swordfish and seared salmon were our choices for the evening - a great choice!!

I would recommend calling ahead, but it’s definitely worth a trip to Georgetown to visit this restaurant!

Kind Words From A Recent Client

One of our recent clients was kind enough to write us a review of her experience. We’d like to thank her for her kind words and the opportunity to do business with her. She had this to say about our team:

“Scott and Laura are a dynamic team and really know how to get the job done.  We were delighted with their prompt responses to all our concerns and calls.  The listing and sales process for our condo in Arlington was seamless.  That’s because of their attention to details and taking great care of all that needs to be done between ratified contract and settlement.  We think the world of Scott, and his team.  Two thumbs up!” - Gretchen Krampf, Arlington, VA

“Keys to Recovery” - The Revision to Fannie Mae’s Down Payment Policy

Beginning June 1st, Fannie Mae will implement a revised National Down Payment Policy (to replace the “Declining Market” initiative implemented in December 2007). According to the policy, Fannie Mae will begin accepting up to 97% Loan-To-Value (LTV) ratios for Conventional, Conforming mortgages processed through its automated underwriting system, and 95% LTV ratios for loans underwritten outside of this system - for ALL geographic locations in the US. The former policy was based on local real estate market conditions. The new policy affects single-family homes used as primary residences, other investments will have varying policies.

The change comes after months of meetings from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), who claimed the former policy was discouraging potential homeowners from entering markets that were once labeled in a “declining market.” The “Keys to Recovery” initiative will hopefully help “to support successful home-owning, not just home-buying, as we seek to bring liquidity to all communities and help the housing market recover,”  says Marianne Sullivan, Senior Vice President, Single-Family Credit Policy and Risk Management. For the complete Fannie Mae press release, click here.
